SIDC Module 6 Exam Guide: Format and Syllabus
Updated · 6 min read
Module 6, Stock Market and Securities Law, is the rules paper every dealer's representative (remisier) sits. It tests the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007, the Rules of Bursa Malaysia Securities, the Listing Requirements and the SC's conduct and anti-money laundering guidelines. It is also the module that most candidates sit: 498 sittings in 2024 out of 2,156 across all thirteen modules (SIDC Annual Highlights 2024).

The syllabus in three sections
SIDC publishes the maximum share of questions each section can take. The maxima overlap, so they add up to more than 100%.
| Section | Topics | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Overview of the Malaysian stock market; regulation of the securities industry; business structures | 20% (12 questions) |
| 2 | Capital raising and the Listing Requirements; trading on Bursa Securities, the Trading Manual and conduct guidelines; clearing, settlement and corporate actions; law of contract; the stockbroker-client relationship; negligent misstatement | 70% (42 questions) |
| 3 | Licensing; securities offences; take-overs and mergers | 40% (24 questions) |
Question types
- Single-answer questions: one stem, four options.
- Roman-numeral questions: statements (i) to (iv), with options such as "(i) and (iii) only". Rules papers like Module 6 use these heavily.
- Extended questions: a longer set of facts that may carry more than one question.
Negative stems ("all of the following EXCEPT") are common. Read the last line of the stem before the options.
Open book does not mean easy
You may bring the prescribed reference materials listed in the study outline (the CMSA, the SCMA, the Bursa rules and Trading Manual, the Listing Requirements, the SC guidelines and the Licensing Handbook), printed and unmarked except for highlights that record amendments. With 90 seconds a question, you cannot look everything up. Know where each rule lives and look up only figures you are unsure of. See how to pass Module 6 for a method.
