SIDC Module 6 and 7: The Dealer's Rep Pair
Updated · 5 min read
"SIDC Module 6 and 7" is what most people search, because it is the pair a dealer's representative (a remisier or a salaried dealer at a stockbroking firm) must pass for a Capital Markets Services Representative's Licence in dealing in securities. The Licensing Handbook (Table 3) accepts Modules 6 and 7, or 6 and 18, or 7 and 17, or 17 and 18.
How the two papers differ
| Module 6 | Module 7 | |
|---|---|---|
| Subject | Stock Market and Securities Law | Financial Statement Analysis and Asset Valuation |
| Questions / time | 60 in 90 min | 60 in 90 min |
| Pass mark | 60% | 60% |
| Book | Open book (your own printed reference materials) | Closed book, calculator allowed |
| Fee (resident) | RM1,250 | RM1,250 |
| Sittings in 2024 | 498 | 461 |
Which to sit first
Either order works; SIDC sets no prerequisite. Many candidates take Module 7 first because it is evergreen (accounting and valuation do not change with Bursa circulars), then Module 6 closer to their licence application, when the rules they study are freshest. A pass is valid for two years from the exam date, so both must fall inside that window when you apply (Licensing Handbook para 4.05(6)).
Modules 17 and 18 instead?
Modules 17 and 18 combine the securities and derivatives syllabuses into two 100-question, 150-minute papers (RM1,350 each). They suit someone who wants both dealing licences. For securities alone, 6 and 7 are shorter and far more common: 17 and 18 had 40 and 22 sittings in 2024.
Trap
Read the Module 6 guide and the Module 7 guide. One SIDC Prep pass covers both modules (and Module 12).

Frequently asked questions
Do I need both SIDC Module 6 and 7 to be a remisier?
Yes, or an accepted alternative: Modules 6 and 18, 7 and 17, or 17 and 18 (Licensing Handbook Table 3). CFA charterholders are exempt from Module 7 only.
Which should I take first, Module 6 or 7?
SIDC sets no order. Each pass is valid for two years from its exam date, so both must be valid when your firm applies for the licence.
