How to Pass SIDC Module 6 (Open Book)
Updated · 6 min read
Module 6 is open book, 60 questions in 90 minutes, 60% to pass. SIDC suggests at least 80 hours of study. Here is a method that uses the open-book rule properly.
1. Build your reference set early
The study outline lists 15 prescribed reference materials, among them the CMSA, the SCMA, the Rules of Bursa Malaysia Securities, the Participating Organisations' Trading Manual, the Main, ACE and LEAP Market Listing Requirements, the SC's conduct and AML guidelines and the Licensing Handbook. Print the current versions from sc.com.my and bursamalaysia.com. You may highlight or underline amendments only; tabs and notes are not allowed.
2. Learn where rules live, not every word
At about 90 seconds a question you can afford a few look-ups, not one per question. Learn the structure: which Part of the CMSA holds licensing (Part III) and market misconduct (Part V), which Bursa rule chapter covers trading, and which guideline covers client treatment.
3. Weight your time to Section 2
Section 2 (capital raising, trading, conduct and AML, clearing and settlement, contract, the client relationship, negligent misstatement) can take up to 70% of the paper. Section 3 (licensing, securities offences, take-overs) up to 40%. Section 1 at most 20%.
4. Practise the question shapes
- Roman-numeral items: decide each statement true or false first, then find the option.
- EXCEPT items: three options are true; find the false one.
- Short scenarios: a client, a dealer's representative and an order. Identify the rule, then the actor's duty.
5. Sit full timed mocks
Score 75% or more on two full mocks before you book. SIDC Prephas four full Module 6 mocks drawn to SIDC's section maxima on a screen with Bookmark and a countdown at the top left. Start with the free mock.
