A dealer's representative wants to enter a new Regulated Short Selling order for an Approved Security. Which of the following entries are permitted? (i) At 8.45 a.m., during the pre-opening phase (ii) At 4.55 p.m., during Trading at Last, at the closing price (iii) During the main trading phase, at the best prevailing ask price (iv) With Bursa Good-Till-Cancel validity
The Trading Manual (paras 2.5.7, 7.1.2, 7.1.4 and 7.2.3 to 7.2.5) allows new RSS orders in the main trading phase and in Trading at Last, but not in pre-opening or pre-closing. In main trading the order must meet the at-tick rule, that is at or above the prevailing best ask, so (iii) is allowed. In Trading at Last new RSS orders may be entered at the closing price only, so (ii) is allowed. Statement (i) fails because no new RSS order can be entered during pre-opening. Statement (iv) fails because only day orders are allowed for short selling, so a Good-Till-Cancel RSS order is not permitted. Candidates assume short selling follows the same phase table as ordinary limit orders, or forget that only day orders are allowed.
