A cum-dividend contract fails and buying-in takes place in the afternoon of the ex-date. The last cum price was RM2.50 and the morning last done price RM2.38. What is the buying-in bid price?
For securities quoted cum entitlement, Rule 5.2A(d)(ii) of the Clearing House Rules and Trading Manual paras 6.2.6 and 6.2.7 set the bid at ten ticks above the last cum entitlement price or the last done price, whichever is higher, from the ex-date up to the lodgement date. RM2.50 is higher than RM2.38. The buying-in tick for RM1.00 to RM2.99 is 1 sen, so the bid is 2.50 + 0.10 = RM2.60. RM2.48 builds on the ex-entitlement last done price, which would short-change the buyer of a cum contract. RM2.51 adds one tick instead of ten. RM2.70 uses the 2 sen tick that applies only from RM3.00. Source: Rules of Bursa Malaysia Securities Clearing Rule 5.2A(d)(ii), Schedule 5-1; Trading Manual paras 6.2.6-6.2.7 (as at October 2026).
